Through the pages of this book we seek to acquaint readers with the ancestral history of the sport of polo, which spread from Mongolia to India, where British military officers began to play and codify it, eventually making it the fashionable sport in England at the end of the 19th century — the golden age of the Spanish Murrieta family, who, settled in England, were directly responsible for the young Jerez native Pedro Nolasco González taking up the game and passing on his passion to his friends in the Jerez of 1870, when commercial ties between the sherry houses of Jerez and England were at their height.

A camp at the foot of Gibraltar, along with Madrid, Bilbao, Santander and Barcelona, also let themselves be won over by the appeal and the difficulty of this sport, which furthermore counted on His Majesty Alfonso XIII as the foremost exponent of Spanish polo in Europe.
